Mélenchon threatens Macron with dismissal if there is no left-wing government
Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s La France Insoumise (LFI) party is threatening French President Emmanuel Macron with a parliamentary procedure to remove him if he does not appoint the candidate of the left-wing coalition of which he is a member as prime minister.
In an article published this Sunday by The Tribunesigned by Mélenchon himself, as well as by the party coordinator, Manuel Bompard, and the head of the group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, demand that Macron form a left-wing government, arguing that “in France, the only thing that matters is the popular vote.”
They point out that this message in the press is a “solemn warning” because Macron “must know that all constitutional means will be used to depose him before subjecting us to his tricks against the basic rule of democracy.”
At least 18 injured in Ferris wheel fire at festival in Germany
Police in Saxony, a federal state in eastern Germany, reported on Sunday that 18 people were injured on Saturday night when a fire broke out on a 38-meter-high Ferris wheel at a festival in the municipality of Großpösna, near the city of Leipzig.
The fire was extinguished thanks to the efforts of firefighters, while four injured people had to be treated for burns, another person suffered injuries from a fall and the others received medical attention after having been in contact with smoke from the fire, according to a police statement.
The 18 people had to be taken to hospital, according to the statement, which announced the opening of an investigation into the cause of the fire.
