The DIRCOCOR Police and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office arrested the rector of the National University of Piura (UNP)Santos Leandro Montaño Roalcaba when he was hospitalized in the Cayetano Heredia Hospital in Piura, because he had a preliminary arrest warrant. This was after being caught allegedly receiving 10 thousand soles from a businessman for maintenance services and for which he is being investigated for the alleged crime of extortion.
Police officers, together with prosecutor Jesús Aranguren, arrived at the hospital located in the district of Castilla and arrested the rector around 2 p.m. yesterday, who is hospitalized in a bed in the hospital’s dialysis area, against whom they executed a 72-hour preliminary detention measure issued by Resolution 01-2024 of the Judicial Branch.
The arrest, which was requested by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and accepted by the judicial body, is to guarantee the investigation into the evidence that was presented after a report broadcast by the television program Cuarto Poder on América Televisión.
Also, because the authorities would have taken statements regarding the case from some witnesses who would be from the university of the National University of Piura.

It was learned that Santos Montaño will spend the night under police surveillance in the hospital, where he is being treated for an illness that he suffered from when he went to the hospital a few days ago.
Last Sunday, Cuarto Poder published a report where Santos Montaño was captured receiving 10 thousand soles inside the National University of Piura from a businessman and supplier.
There they mention that the payment is for services provided to said educational institution and the money is delivered directly to the rector and within his office.
