Ministry of the Interior warns of scams in the automotive sector through “fake accounts”

“Criminals” take “images of established car dealerships” and pretend to “be them to request information,” the ministry warns.

The Ministry of the Interior recently issued a statement warning of “fraudulent maneuvers carried out in the automotive sector throughout the country.”

“Criminals use fake WhatsApp accounts and social networks, taking the image of established car dealerships, pretending to be them to request deposits on personal accounts,” the ministry said.

“They display vehicle catalogues from real companies and make offers of prices and financing rates below the market to attract victims,” he added.

The ministry also urges the public to “verify that these are official channels of established companies and only make deposits into accounts in the name of ASCOMA member companies.”

“The informal sale of vehicles does not provide legal, notarial or economic security,” he points out.

The Interior Ministry urges that any “irregular operation” be reported “immediately”.
