Specialized courts for gender, domestic and sexual violence were inaugurated in Rivera
“It is a place that has specific requirements, designed to respond to the issue of violence, and dignifies the work of reporting and containment,” said the acting president, Beatriz Argimón, after inaugurating specialized first and second shift family courts in Rivera, whose investment exceeded 12,000,000 pesos. “The State reaches out to listen to the victim,” she said.
“This is a very important fact, because when the specific budget for installing three gender courts was voted on, we consulted about where to install them and Rivera was one of the departments,” said Argimón.
The acting President of the Republic stressed the need for the building infrastructure to include adequate spaces so that the victim does not meet the perpetrator, as well as an area for the defense attorneys, technicians and minors. “This headquarters has what it needs and is also an example of the hand-in-hand work that exists between the Executive and Judicial powers,” she said.
“The issue of violence against women and within the home must be of concern to the Government, the municipalities and the community. We must commit ourselves to helping the victims, to making the complaints effective and to ensuring that the tools work. This awareness will contribute to the indicators going down,” said the official.
The Judiciary invested 12,234,457 pesos in order to establish first and second shift legal courts in Rivera specializing in gender-based, domestic and sexual violence. The new headquarters has an entrance separate from the rest of the center, but everything is connected internally. Double vertical circulation was maintained on the stairs, one for officials and the public, another for detainees, and an elevator was installed near the main entrance to reach both floors.
The building includes a public service office with a waiting room and toilets, a consulting room for the Forensic Technical Institute, two courtrooms, a waiting area for detainees, an administrative office with its corresponding toilets, two offices for actuaries and archives.
A data and Wi-Fi network, a new electrical network and the Audire Pro system were also installed in the courtrooms, including voice distortion equipment. For air conditioning, new air conditioners, computer equipment, curtains and signage were installed.
