The rector of the National University of Piura (UNP), Santos Montaño Roalcaba, was arrested this Friday by agents of the National Police and the Public Ministry, after being caught on video receiving an alleged bribe of S/10,000 from a possible supplier.
According to a report broadcast by ‘Cuarto Poder’, Montaño and his advisor held a meeting with a person from whom they requested a “direct deal without intermediaries.” In the recording, the person recording the moment mentions that the money delivered corresponds to services provided to the UNP.
The same report also revealed that Montaño boasted of having influence in appointing the authorities of the National Superintendence of Higher University Education (Sunedu).
Santos Montaño Roalcaba, rector of the National University of Piura, has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. He is currently hospitalized at the José Cayetano Heredia hospital. A 72-hour preliminary prison sentence has been imposed.
