The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, led the meeting for the National Communal Consultation that will take place on August 25 with the support of the National Electoral Council.
In his speech, the national leader explained that these elections will be held in 4,505 popular circuits, grouped into 49 thousand communal councils, which are led by approximately 1.5 million communal spokespersons.
These elections will be of utmost importance for the consolidation of popular power, since the communities themselves will choose the local projects that will be financed by the national government.
President Maduro reported that there are around 27,420 projects submitted for these elections, which represents an average of 6 projects per community.
He said that the electoral campaign will take place from August 19 to 24, during which time the spokespersons of the community organizations will be able to inform the inhabitants of their areas about the seven projects that will be presented in the National Popular Consultation.
He said that this consultation is an organic expression of the constitution and the laws, which gives more power to the organized people. “Venezuela has its own model of democracy… We do not accept impositions, interventionism and that anyone puts their filthy hands in our beloved and beautiful country,” he declared.
The head of state stressed his commitment to advancing debureaucratization, as well as “direct government with the people.”
