US President Joe Biden on Friday congratulated Luis Abinader after being sworn in as president of the Dominican Republic for a second term and offered his support to ensure a prosperous future for the country.
According to the statement released by the White House, Biden stressed that the United States and the Dominican Republic are “close friends and partners” and are linked by their shared commitment to democracy and deep cultural ties.
The American leader stressed Washington’s willingness to support Abinader and his Administration “in their efforts to guarantee a prosperous future for the population of the Dominican Republic.”
Abinader assumed his second and final term on Friday with the promise of a series of reforms, including a constitutional and fiscal one.
The U.S. delegation to his inauguration ceremony was led by Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, who traveled accompanied, among others, by Biden’s special adviser for Latin America, Chris Dodd.
