Credentials of candidates for Comptroller General of the Republic will be reviewed next week

The Secretary General of the National Assembly, Carlos Alvarado González, handed over to the President of the Credentials, Regulations, Parliamentary Ethics and Judicial Affairs Committee, Shirley Castañeda, the files of the 66 candidates for the position of Comptroller General of the Republic and the 71 candidates for Deputy Comptroller General.

In this regard, Alvarado González explained that the selection process for the Comptroller is based on Resolution 33 of August 5, 2024, approved by the Legislative plenary, and for this reason, it is up to the Credentials Committee to examine the profiles of the candidates.

For her part, Deputy Shirley Castañeda stated that the Credentials Committee will verify that each of the candidates meets the requirements established in Article 279 of the Political Constitution of the Republic and the provisions of the Internal Regulations of the National Assembly, with the review of the resumes being a priority.

Castañeda said that next Tuesday and Wednesday, they will begin reviewing the files of each of the candidates, clarifying that they will not interview any candidate because their job is to examine their resumes. “There will be a transparent selection process, we want a Comptroller who complies with the Law and his oversight work.”
