Santo Domingo.- In his inaugural address, President Luis Abinader highlighted that in the last four years, his government managed to incorporate 2.4 million Dominicans into public health insurance who previously did not have this benefit, thus reaching 97.3% coverage of the population.
Abinader stressed that this achievement is a reflection of his administration’s commitment to public health, making access to health insurance a reality for almost all citizens of the country.
“Virtually all Dominicans have family health insurance,” said the president, highlighting that this progress has been possible thanks to efficient management and the prioritization of resources toward social welfare.
I would like to emphasise that this government has opened 54 hospitals, some new, others rebuilt, expanded and equipped, and 583 primary care centres, both renovated and newly built.
And next year, 2025, we will deliver 3 new third-level trauma hospitals located in Azua, Sosúa and Higüey, in addition to a Trauma unit with more than 60 beds at the San Vicente de Paúl Hospital in San Francisco de Macorís, and we will add to this network the San Cristóbal Trauma Hospital, whose work began last July. With all these units, we will guarantee a new trauma network that covers the entire national territory.
