SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- Four members of a Havana family died this Wednesday after the explosion of an electric motorcycle, according to a report 14yMedio.
The fire, which was triggered by the explosion of the motorcycle’s lithium battery, caused the death of four of the house’s inhabitants and left a 13-year-old girl in critical condition and hospitalized.
The incident occurred at house 203 on Marqués de la Torre Street, in the Havana municipality of Diez de Octubre, reported14yMedio.
Neighbors of the place told that independent media that there were two motorboats in the house; one of them was left charging overnight and exploded shortly after seven in the morning. Inside the house were the married couple Andrés Herrera and Yiliam Martínez, their daughters and a cousin of the family.
The latter and the couple died on the spot. Although the neighbors tried to help, they were unable to break the fence to gain access and save them. “They were trapped,” he told 14yMedio a person.
When firefighters arrived at the home, they rescued the two girls alive, but the youngest died hours later in the hospital.
The 13-year-old girl has serious burns and is admitted to the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital.
The dangerous electric motorcycles
Such incidents often appear on social media. The cause is almost always the overheating of lithium batteries, when they are left connected to the power supply to charge them.
In many situations, motorcycles parked inside homes explode and end up causing devastating fires that leave families in ruins.
In June, a married couple died and their three children were hospitalized after an electric motorcycle exploded inside the home where the family lived in the municipality of La Lisa, in the country’s capital.
A nine-year-old boy and two 21-year-old twin girls remained in critical condition after a raging fire broke out in the explosion. The fire occurred while everyone was sleeping; they were unable to escape the tragedy.
