Bolivian exporters declared a state of emergency this Thursday, in response to the Government’s intentions to exercise control over the exchange of foreign currency entering the country through exports.
At a press conference, the presidents of the National Chamber of Exporters of Bolivia (Caneb) and the Chamber of Exporters of Santa Cruz (Cadex) warned that this proposed measure is not the solution and would lead to a sharp drop in exports.
Danilo Velasco, president of Caneb, and Oswaldo Barriga, from Cadex, declared the emergency one day after the “National Dialogue on the Economy and Production”, convened by the Government and held in La Paz. More than 40 private entities and their representatives participated in the meeting.
