The Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron Cuarón revealed his intention to explore the horror genre in his next film. During his participation in the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, Cuarón, known for his work in films such as ‘Gravity’, ‘Children of Men’, and ‘Roma’, expressed his desire to direct a horror movie inspired by classics of the genre.
Cuarón, 62, said he is drawn to films like “Rosemary’s Baby,” directed by Roman Polanski, and “The Babadook,” written and directed by Jennifer Kent. According to the director, these films have a realistic basis and characters that fascinate him, according to TMZ.
The filmmaker, who is also known for his work on ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’, confessed that he tried to write a script for a horror film, but has not yet found the right story. “As a viewer, I have a broader taste, but anything I feel I could do will have to have more substance. I’ve tried to write something like this, But somehow it doesn’t quite work out,” he said at the Spazio Cinema.
In “Rosemary’s Baby,” released in 1968, Mia Farrow plays a pregnant woman who suspects her neighbors are involved in a satanic cult. “The Babadook,” released in 2014, follows a single mother who faces a supernatural monster while dealing with her grief, according to IMDb.
