Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will set foot on Colombian soil for the first time, while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit three important cities: Bogotá, Cartagena and Cali.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have confirmed their visit to Colombia, as part of their philanthropic initiatives through the Archewell Foundation.

This visit to Colombia, which follows their recent success in Nigeria, represents the first time the couple have travelled to a country outside the Commonwealth or the African continent.

The Duke and Duchess have been invited by Vice President and Minister for Equality, Francia Márquez, to take part in conferences focused on crucial issues such as cyberbullying, online exploitation and the impact of these threats on mental health.

Agenda of the Dukes

This Thursday, August 15, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will participate in a press conference alongside Márquez on the first day of their visit, in which topics related to equality and equity, the impact of the digital world on young people and support for mental health initiatives will be discussed.

The visit also aims to showcase Colombia’s cultural and biological wealth.

The Duke and Duchess will learn about various social and cultural projects and will take part in a forum whose central focus will be the creation of strategies to make digital environments safer, combating hate and cyberbullying on social networks.

Visit to boost the digital age

During their stay in Bogotá, they will visit a school where they will interact with students about the effects of the digital environment on society, highlighting the importance of maintaining safe and healthy digital spaces.

They will also attend a forum organized in collaboration with the Archewell Foundation and Luminate, which will bring together experts, activists and community members to discuss the need for responsible technological practices, especially in the Global South, where the negative impact of technology is most acute.

Bogota and Cali

On Friday, August 16, the Duke and Duchess’ agenda will focus on the socio-emotional well-being of young people. They will visit an educational institution in Bogotá to emphasize the importance of integrating emotional well-being into education and reinforce the commitment to the mental health of the new generations.

That same day, they will meet again with the Vice President to discuss the upcoming World Ministerial Conference on the Elimination of Violence Against Children, which will take place in Colombia this year.
