After two days of cleaning, the first carried out by the local government and the second by the evangelical church Monte Santo de Jehovah, according to reports, a total of 40 tons of garbage were collected. However, there is still more solid waste, due to the panorama of pollution in the snow-capped mountain, citizens complain about the government’s indifference.

“I brought this trash to show the government that it is not difficult to grab a bag and fill it with trash. Huaytapallana is a shame, full of trash and they are not interested,” said Eduardo Franco, one of the protesters. He also described the scene he saw on the snowy mountain. The lake was full of fruit and bottles, and there were even dead animals like chickens and a sheep.

Statement by Cultural Associations

Given the current situation of the Huaytapallana snow-capped mountain, the Cultural Associations held a press conference, in which they denied that they are the cause of the contamination due to the payment to the earth that they made. In addition, they showed the elements with which they carry out their rituals, which consist of herbs, food, clay pots and flowers. “We do not carry wine, liquor bottles, or disposable plates or glasses,” clarified one of the teachers.
