HAVANA, Cuba.- A young man lineman A Cuban worker at the Havana Electric Company died on Tuesday night after allegedly being electrocuted while working on a pole in the town of Punta Brava, La Lisa municipality.

According to a source who preferred not to be identified for fear of reprisals, the tragedy occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, on 28th Street, between 251 and 253, in the Punta Brava neighborhood, La Lisa.
“The electric company was called around two in the afternoon because of a broken transformer that left us without power, but it was not until 10 at night that they came and, by the way, the guy worked super well,” said the source.
However, after finishing his work and when he tried to cross over the power lines to reach the stairs, he fell unconscious onto the cables and remained there until he was lowered by the firefighters, the source said.
According to another local resident, the young lineman arrived alive at the clinic where he was taken, but died shortly after.
In a video provided to CubaNet The neighbors present at the accident are heard saying: “That’s how well we work in Cuba, a young man, (working) without gloves or anything.”
Without an ambulance nearby
According to the testimonies provided to this media, the man was on top of the pole for about half an hour, which was the time it took the firefighters to arrive at the area of the sinister.
“The ambulance was delayed for about an hour because it first had to go to Alamar to drop off a pregnant woman and then it came here,” explained one of the witnesses.
In March of this year, another lineman from the Boyeros Municipal Electric Company died in Havana as a result of an industrial accident while working on restoring the capital’s service, which was affected by strong storms.
The victim was identified as Leonel Borroso Machín, who died after undergoing surgery after falling from the top of a pole while on duty.
