The state court’s ruling can still be challenged before the Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Branch (TEPJF).
“The declaration of validity and the granting of certificates of majority and validity corresponding to the renewal of the Monterrey City Council are hereby confirmed,” says the validated ruling.
Adrián de la Garza has been described as one of the main political adversaries of Samuel García, who sought the MC candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic.
De la Garza was mayor of Monterrey between 2019 and 2021, before MC won with Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas.
He has also been Attorney General of Nuevo León.
Mariana Rodríguez’s defeat also represents a defeat for Samuel García, who has been in dispute with the state Congress for years due to the lack of agreements with members of the PAN and the PRI.
