Hurricane Ernesto moves away over the North Atlantic waters; rains continue tonight

Santo Domingo, DR.- He Hurricane Ernesto, Category I on the Saffir-Simpson scale, located approximately 320 kilometers northeast Puerto Plata and 290 kilometers east of Grand Turk Island, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and is moving north/west at about 26 kph.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) predicts that this cyclonic phenomenon will continue to intensify over Atlantic waters as it moves northwest, away from Dominican territory.

Indirectly, Hurricane Ernesto maintains its cloudiness over different parts of the country, generating precipitation with thunderstorms and gusts of wind.

The effects are felt in the provinces of La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris, Samana, Monte Plata, Duarte, Sanchez Ramirez, Duarte, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Espaillat, Mirabal Sisters, Puerto Plata, La Vega, Santiago, Monsignor Nouel, The Great Santo Domingoamong others.

Due to the rains that have fallen and are forecast, the Indomet maintains the levels of meteorological alert and warning, in the event of possible flooding of rivers, streams and ravines, as well as landslides and urban flooding, Saint Peter of Macoris, Mirabal Sisters, Monte Plata, Duarte, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Greater Santo Domingo and Espaillat.

In addition, the warning remains in effect for La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Samaná and La Romana.

Tomorrow, Thursday, Ernesto will be further away from the northern part of the DR, passing over the waters of the Atlantic, so we expect a decrease in the occurrence of rain in most of the provinces that make up our territory, where a clear and warm environment is expected throughout the day, except during the evening hours, where we expect cloudy weather with showers and thunderstorms that will occur until the early hours of the night towards towns distributed in the northwest, north, central mountain range and border area.
