Gas cylinder explosion leaves one dead and 11 injured in Petare

The explosion of a gas cylinder in Petare has already claimed its twelfth victim, who was hospitalized in Pérez de León


On the morning of Wednesday, August 14, it was learned that the death toll from the explosion of a gas cylinder in the Bambú sector of the Unión neighborhood of Petare rose to 12.

According to the crime reporter Roman Camacho, The twelfth victim, identified as Diomar Muñoz, 28, died at the Ana Francisca de Pérez de León hospital after suffering health complications due to compromised lungs.

Union Radiofor his part, said that the deceased had a closed abdominal trauma that caused a fluid spill in the area. In addition, it was learned that he lived on the third floor of the collapsed structure.

Three houses collapsed after a gas cylinder exploded in the El Bambú sector of the Unión neighborhood of Petare, in Miranda state, on August 12. The incident, which occurred in the morning, left eight people dead and 22 injured.

The governor of the state, Héctor Rodríguez, confirmed the event on his Instagram account. He explained that the collapse occurred in a three-story multi-family home. He said that there was a gas leak and then the cylinder exploded.

On August 13, the list of deceased was released; they were identified as:

According to one of the survivors of the explosion in Petare, what could have caused the tragedy was the ignition of a stove.

Deivida Mayora told Union Radio The explosion allegedly originated inside one of the houses on the lower part of the three-story structure. In total, the building consisted of eight apartments.

Mayora also commented on how she experienced the unfortunate situation, in which her two daughters were also involved.

“I was preparing lunch for me and my daughters and we went down. I managed to climb up to be able to get my 2-year-old daughter and the other 19-year-old out,” she explained.
