The Nicaraguan regime continues to distribute the national territory at will to mining companies with Chinese capital. In the ministerial agreement 024-EMC-M-009-2024, it formalized a new mining concession to the company Nicaragua Xinxin Linze Mining Group Limited Companyregistered in Nicaragua but operated with Chinese capital and represented by Eduard Xiang Liu, a businessman of Chinese nationality.
“On behalf of Nicaragua, the company Nicaragua Xinxin Linze Mineria Group Sociedad Anónima is granted a mining concession for the exploitation of metallic and non-metallic minerals in the lot called Río Dorado, with a surface area of 3,628.71 hectares, located in the municipality of San Juan de Limay, in the department of Estelí,” details the agreement disclosed on August 13 in La Gaceta.
In the first half of 2024, the Nicaraguan company XinXin Linze Minera Group, Sociedad Anónima has received – including the one granted this Tuesday – a total of four mining concessions, totaling 42,980.71, located on land in Jinotega, Estelí and Caribe Norte.
The first concessions received by this company were: one for 651 hectares of the “Chinotega” lot located between San José de Bocay, in Jinotega, and Siuna, in the North Caribbean; the second for 36,610 hectares of the Nuevo Bijagual lot, located between the municipalities of Siuna and Mulukukú, in the North Caribbean; and the third for 2,091 hectares located in Puerto Cabezas, North Caribbean.
Amid tears, anger and frustration, political prisoners from the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System in Tipitapa, known as La Modelo, recounted, during family visits they received between August 12 and 13, the persistence of psychological torture perpetrated by officials of that prison, who make them believe that “they are free” and then mock them.
Relatives of political prisoners who are part of the United Group of Political Kidnapped Persons (GSPU), in an interview with Article 66, explained that on August 2, according to the account given by their relatives who were unjustly and arbitrarily imprisoned, the guards at La Modelo arrived at galleries 16 and 17 at around 3 a.m., woke everyone up, and ordered them to wash the galleries because “they were going on a trip.”
“They were told that they wanted those cells thoroughly cleaned because they were going ‘on a trip’. They made them wash the entire gallery from the ceiling, the bathrooms, the floor, the walls, they demanded that they get dressed, they took them out to the patio and then they put them back in the cells and they started to make fun of them,” denounced one of the relatives who are members of the GSPU.
Some of the political prisoners were seriously affected by the persistence of this new method of torture applied in La Modelo, to the point of spending almost the entire day crying for not obtaining their freedom.
“One of them said he thought he was going to leave in slippers because he didn’t have any shoes and he started crying in front of his relative,” said another source consulted by this newspaper.
In addition to this torture mechanism, the political prisoners reported that during the last week of July, after the package deliveries on the 26th of that month, the officials organized a search in the galleries, ordered them to strip naked and do squats.
