Maria Corina Machado: Venezuelans are in a situation where they fear for their lives

Maria Corina Machado said that the current situation in the country leads Venezuelans to fear for their safety, their freedom and their lives.

The coordinator of the political organization Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, criticized on NTN24 on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 13, that there is a double message from the administration of Nicolás Maduro against her.

“One day the prosecutor comes out saying that there are no arrest warrants and the next Nicolás Maduro comes out saying that I am a terrorist fugitive from justice. We are in a situation in which everyone in Venezuela fears for their safety, freedom and life,” said Machado.

She explained that she speaks with the mothers of the boys arrested and killed, saying that trying to give comfort and face has been one of the hardest moments she has experienced and insisted that the country has already changed “for the better.”

He then sent a message to citizens using social media in which he denounced Maduro’s intention to make citizens of the communities enemies of each other by being “informers” with the systems that the government offers for this purpose.

“They want to create barriers in our communities with these accusations that seek to artificially turn us into enemies of each other (…). They want to create snitches, informers, who betray their neighbors, the brother with whom they have lived their whole lives (…), but they will not succeed,” said the opposition leader through a video on X.

He acknowledged the role of the witnesses and the citizen organization that supported them in gathering the “83.5%” of the minutes that were uploaded to an internet portal.

“I invite you to continue overcoming all the obstacles that the regime puts in our way with its terror, so that we remain organized and, now overcoming fear, we can gather again around our commanders and the thousands of citizen organizations,” said Machado.

PreviouslyOpposition leader María Corina Machado reiterated that the fight for truth and democratic change continues.

In a press conference via Zoom with media from Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, Machado emphasized: “We are still on the streets in a peaceful and civil manner, but that does not mean that I am weak (…) We are going all the way until Maduro understands that his best option is to accept a negotiated transition with guarantees.”

He therefore reiterated his call to participate in the worldwide protest on Saturday, August 17, which has been called in defense of the popular will expressed in the presidential elections of July 28.
