Nursing staff from the main public hospitals in Santiago and 10 other health centers in the northern region They stopped work for eight hours yesterdaydemanding salary increases, pensions, reinstatement of fired employees and other demands.
The professionals gathered at the José María Cabral y Báez Hospital in this city, where they were joined by nurses from the Children’s Hospital, Dr. Arturo Grullón Hospital in Santiago and other towns in the region, such as Puerto Plata and San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte province.
The protesters said they have been waiting for the president’s promise for three years. Luis Abinader, but has not yet been fulfilled.

Ramón Rodríguez, general secretary of the National Nursing Union (Sinatrae), stated that the health unions held this demonstration to call on President Abinader and the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Mario Lamaso that they may hear his call.
“Here we are, three years of negotiations and no response. The authorities have left us no other option than protest,” said the leader.
She reported that the nursing sector needs a salary adjustment, the reinstatement of 12 nurses who were dismissed in June, 100 percent payment for time spent in service and injuries, based on seniority of nursing staff.
On his side, Elba of the Roserepresentative of (Sinatrae) at the national level, called on the Government, through the National Health Service, to comply with the agreements. He recalled that they have been discussing their demands since 2011; however, no agreement has been approved that benefits the sector he represents.
