A tragic night was experienced at kilometer 61 plus 350 meters of route 4305, the highway that connects Lérida and Venadillo, after a serious traffic accident involving a taxi and a private vehicle.
This incident, which occurred around 8:00 pm, left three people dead and one more in critical condition.
The crash occurred near the Tamarindo farm.
According to Captain Laura Marcela Lara, from the Traffic and Transportation Section of the Tolima Police Department, the accident occurred when the private vehicle collided with the rear of the taxi and subsequently hit a large Samán tree.
The private car caught fire completely after the impact.
“Unfortunately, the taxi driver, Renzo Steven Varón Naranjo, and one of the passengers, Mrs. Leticia Naranjo, died at the scene of the accident. The other passenger, Edna Yurley Bocanegra, was taken to the Reina Sofía Hospital in Lérida, but also lost her life,” explained Captain Lara.
The only survivor, identified as Esteban Varón, affectionately known as ‘Muleticas’, is in critical condition and is receiving medical attention at the Reina Sofía Hospital.
The incident has caused serious concern in the community and local authorities have called for caution on the roads.
Captain Laura Lara reminded drivers of the importance of respecting traffic signs, not exceeding speed limits and driving responsibly.
The road crew and the mobile laboratory of the Traffic and Transport Section carried out an inspection of the site to clarify the causes of the accident.
