Müller: “I am public for reasons beyond my control; I am quietly retiring”

Müller: “I am public for reasons beyond my control; I am quietly retiring”

After reflecting on her book and the role that women have played in the country, Müller announced that, as her book is titled, she will quietly retire from politics, since her private life became public for reasons beyond her control and it will be through reflections and from academia that she will continue her feminist struggle.

“Since I did not ask to be in the public sphere, I will retire anyway, especially from the political sphere – it is not my thing – and although I was or am in the public sphere for reasons beyond my control, I will quietly retire as well to live with all the prudence that characterizes me for the rest of my life,” she said.

Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller recommended that politicians who remain in the public sphere not lose the essence of the country’s transformation movement and listen more to citizens and not distance themselves from them.

“In politics, it is assumed that the main instrument is the word, that is fine, you have to convince, but politicians and especially those who come to power have to listen more than they have listened to the people, it is that simple, there is no way to go, that is the truth,” he said.

During the presentation of the book “Silent Feminism,” writer Pedro Miguel and other special guests highlighted the role of Beatriz Gutiérrez and President López Obrador in breaking with the figure of the “First Lady,” which they considered to be a classist and hypocritical figure of the past by directing the actions of the president’s wife toward charitable and philanthropic works.

During the interventions of the book presenters and Beatriz Gutiérrez herself, attendees and Morena supporters changed the classic cheer directed at President López Obrador to “it is an honor to be with Betty (Beatriz Gutiérrez) today.”

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was embraced by the people of Zócalo with cheers and applause.

Beatriz Gutiérrez asked those who buy her book not only to read it, but to understand it and share what is written there with other people, so that her work has had the expected end and that citizens reflect on the advances of feminism in the country.

The presence of AMLO

At 5:00 p.m., the star of the event, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, left the National Palace accompanied by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which unleashed a war of cheers, applause and greetings from those attending the Zócalo towards the two main characters.

President López Obrador merely raised his hand and greeted the public in general. Later, he sat in the front row, so as not to steal the spotlight from his wife, for the presentation of his book and the reception of his special guests.

However, the public did not care so much about the president’s courtesy, as the main cheers went to the president.

The now famous AMLITOS speakers also appeared in the Zócalo, billboards with López Obrador’s photograph and the president’s legend “forever.”

Oaxacan artisan Eduardo Lugo Reyes went to the Zócalo in Mexico City with the hope of personally giving President López Obrador recognition for his good governance. However, he was unsuccessful and settled for going to the official’s office to give him the painting and a painting of his own.

VIP guests

Corregidora Street, located next to the National Palace, was the parking lot for dozens of luxury cars and trucks belonging to state secretaries and special guests, where dozens of escorts and drivers waited either on board the vehicles or in groups between Pino Suárez and Correo Mayor Street.

Some of the guests were: Claudia Sheinbaum, virtual president-elect; Martí Batres, head of government; Ernestina Godoy, future legal advisor to the presidency of the republic; Luisa María Alcalde, Secretary of the Interior; Manuel Ojeda, Secretary of the Navy; Manuel Bartlett, director of the CFE, as well as other members of the federal government cabinet.

The use of communication platforms of the Ministry of the Interior and public television channels such as Once TV for the broadcast of Beatriz Gutiérrez’s book caused controversy on social media.
