“Nobody has seen him”: Williams Dávila’s family expresses concern for his health

Diputado Williams Davila Esequibo AD

Relatives of former deputy Williams Dávila said they have no confirmation from the authorities that he is being held at the headquarters of the Sebin Helicoide. They also do not know if he has been brought to court or the alleged crimes of which he is accused. “All we know is based on rumors.”

William Dávila Valeri, son of former deputy Williams Dávila, expressed his concern about the political leader’s health and asked the authorities to clarify the conditions of his father’s confinement.

“On Sunday night, with the help of some human rights activist friends, we managed to bring in some medicines and they were received at the entrance of El Helicoide, understanding that with this act of receiving the medicines it is understood that they are there, but no one has seen them and we know nothing,” explained Dávila Valeri in a interview to Union Radio.

However, he made it clear that they have no confirmation from the authorities that he is being held at the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) Helicoide. They also do not know if he has been brought to court or the alleged crimes of which he is accused. “All we know is based on rumors.”

He said that his father underwent a valve replacement operation a few months ago, and two stents were implanted for a coronary blockage. “For this, he has a treatment of several things, several anticoagulant medicines that he has to take. Being medicated with this, any accident, any cut, any wound, this can be complicated by internal bleeding and he can die. If he does not take the medicines properly, he can also die.”

The son of the former deputy insisted that he needs care due to this illness. “My father is not a man of secrecy, of conspiracy. He is a man of organization.”

Williams Dávila was arrested on the night of Thursday, August 8, after leaving a vigil to request the release of political prisoners. His family learned of his arbitrary arrest through friends and social media. For several years, he has been the subject of precautionary measures by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, due to the threats he has been subject to.
