Maduro calls for "raising the stakes on social media" which he accuses of promoting "fascism"

According to the ruler Nicolás Maduro, “we must go to the streets and win on the networks. We must win on the streets and the networks.” He again accused TikTok, a social network of Chinese origin, of favoring “fascism.” He also indicated that the messaging application WhatsApp supposedly handed over all the data of Venezuelan users.

On Tuesday, the 13th, President Nicolás Maduro asked young pro-government activists to raise awareness on social media, which he has accused in the last week of promoting “fascism” and a “civil war” against the country.

During the inauguration of the national headquarters of the “Great Venezuela Youth Mission,” Maduro asked “that no high school be left unvisited, classroom by classroom, in all universities, public and private, in all neighborhoods (…) but I also want us to raise the stakes on social networks.”

He said that the opposition used social media to reach out directly to “the youth and filled them with hate, some of them were filled with hate (…) They persecuted many people, they threatened all the Venezuelan influencers in the world. They called them like Pablo Escobar, money or lead.”

For this reason, he insisted that “we need to increase the quality and quantity of social media. Focus on that, do nothing else in your life. In the morning, street and street, and at night, networks and networks.”

He again accused TikTok, a social network of Chinese origin and owned by Zhang Yiming, of favoring “fascism. It is through the TikTok network that fascism arises all over the world.” He also indicated that the messaging application WhatsApp allegedly handed over all the data of Venezuelan users to opposition leader María Corina Machado and diplomat Edmundo González.

On the other hand, the president said that “I have never threatened” the population. “What did they do on Monday 29, Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31? They threatened the youth ‘we are going to kill you’. If we had let them set the country on fire, they would have killed thousands and thousands.”

He hurled several insults at Machado and González Urrutia, calling them “terrorists,” “murderers,” and “fugitives from justice,” as well as paying young people to commit criminal acts.

He stressed that “the youth in Venezuela are not criminals, nor fascists, nor terrorists. It is one thing that the commandos hired by Machado are drugged and young criminals, and another thing is that the youth are terrorists.”

According to the Venezuelan leader, “we must go to the streets and win on the networks. We must win on the streets and on the networks,” and he asked to “make several pieces” about the lifestyle of the leaders Leopoldo López and Julio Borges, who are exiled in Spain.

He also asked the mission to begin five weeks of visits, workshops, and physical and virtual discussions for a congress with young people, where “the fundamental lines of the national plan and the 7 Ts for youth” will be defined. This event will take place between September 28 and 29.
