Tropical Storm Ernesto could become a hurricane on Wednesday

Tropical Storm Ernesto continues moving west/northwest at 30 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph, reported the director of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology.

According to Gloria Ceballos, strengthening into a hurricane is forecast early Wednesday north of Puerto Rico.

“TT Ernesto moving west/northwest at 30 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph, forecast to strengthen into a hurricane early Wednesday north of Puerto Rico,” was the message posted on his Twitter account. X.

The most recent report from Indomet indicates that Ernesto was located approximately 565 kilometers east/southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and moving west at about 31 kph.

The institute stressed that this phenomenon would not directly affect the Dominican Republic.

Affects Lesser Antilles

Tropical storm Ernesto is already affecting several Lesser Antilles on Tuesday as it passes through this area of ​​the Caribbean while trying to strengthen and approach Puerto Rico.

This is according to a video on social media, which shows how winds have already begun to affect the island of Antigua, one of the many under tropical storm warning, according to the National Hurricane Center (NCH) on its website.

In addition to Antigua, other islands under this notice are Saint Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Barbuda, Anguilla, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, Saint Barthélemy, the US and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and its island municipalities of Vieques and Culebra.
