The IDEA Group asked Mexico, Colombia and Brazil to expedite their efforts with the Venezuelan authorities to find a solution to the electoral crisis. It asked these three nations to immediately demand the publication of disaggregated data.
The former presidents and leaders who make up the Democratic Initiative Group of Spain and the Americas (IDEA) issued a statement on Monday, August 12, in which they call on Mexico, Colombia and Brazil to accelerate their efforts in Venezuela to find a solution to the crisis generated after the presidential elections of July 28.
In the text, released in social networksthe IDEA Group calls on these three nations to continue to demand that the administration of Nicolás Maduro publish data disaggregated by voting centers and tables as soon as possible to prevent more people from dying and new arbitrary arrests from being recorded.
For this reason, he demanded that an end be put to the “tragedy” that the country is experiencing, which has left thousands of victims because the population is not allowed its right to move towards a peaceful transition; while he recalled that “the UN has demanded an end to the repression and that the repressors be investigated.”

The prosecutor appointed by the defunct constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab, held the comanditos — opposition groups formed, according to the Venezuelan opposition, to promote the candidacy of Edmundo González Urrutia for the presidential elections — responsible for the 25 murders that resulted from the protests on July 29 and 30 in rejection of the results of the presidential elections of July 28, when the National Electoral Council named President Nicolás Maduro as the winner.
Saab participated on Monday August 12th at a meeting with the State Security Council. At the meeting, he explained that the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) reached the conclusion described above after carrying out 31 types of expert reports, including investigation of the site, the body, interviews and necroscopic studies.
Already the August 9ththe IDEA Group reminded the governments of Brazil, Mexico and Colombia that the deadline for the electoral authorities of Venezuela to present the minutes of the last presidential elections has “more than expired.”
The former presidents, who are part of the Democratic Initiative of Spain and the Americas (IDEA), added that it is now up to these governments to “take a clear and final position against the tyranny of (the Venezuelan ruler) Nicolás Maduro Moros.”
