Voices from the health sector present a proposal for reform of the system

He Pact for Better Healthcomposed of people from the academy, providers, unions, associations, patients and former ministers of the health sector, delivered this Monday a proposal for “contribute to the analysis, discussion and search for agreements regarding the needs for improvements and changes that our health system requires“.

According to this association, This document is the result of discussions held during the Summit for the Health of Colombiansheld on July 3 and 4, 2024, which brought together more than 80 experts and agents from the health sector, who “analyzed and enriched a draft based on previous comparative reviews“.

How was the proposal constructed?

Prior to the event, a comparative review of the improvement proposals was carried out with three previs documents: ‘Let’s build new paradigms of health and social protection’, from the Así Vamos en Salud think tank (2021); ’14 Fundamental Agreements’, from the National Academy of Medicine and other medical organizations (2022); and ‘What is the reform that the health system needs?’, from Permanent Seminar convened by the University of Antioquia and other universities (2023).

“The review identified numerous points of agreement, which were compiled in a draft document, which was subsequently analyzed and enriched during the Summit for the Health of Colombians.“, the Pact for Better Health highlighted.

This document addresses issues such as the progressivity within the framework of the fundamental right to health, a framework plan for financing the development of the health system, the flow of resources, the individual insurance model, governance and citizen participation, inspection, surveillance and control, and institutional strengthening.

It also addresses the health model in territories, the care model, the health model in dispersed territories, the subsidy for supply, human talent, quality, provision and networks, pharmaceutical policy and medical devices, the information and interoperability system, social determinants and the transition.
