In an operation carried out by the National Border Service in conjunction with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a shipment of 5,900 capsules of suspected THC was intercepted near the community of Clarita, located in the district of Chepo, last weekend.
These capsules, derived from cannabis, represent a new form of drug trafficking in the country.
During a territorial control operation on the routes used by criminal organisations, the units discovered three bags containing the capsules. The suspects, when surprised, fled into the jungle.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is conducting investigations to identify the criminal organizations involved and determine the destination of these substances and their possible use.
THC capsules, which offer precise and discreet dosing, are gaining popularity in countries where cannabis is legal, but they also pose a challenge for authorities in nations where its use remains illegal. On illegal markets, these 5,900 capsules would fetch an approximate value of 500,000 balboas.
This seizure underscores the need to intensify SENAFRONT’s detection and response measures against new forms of drug trafficking and reinforces the “Darién Campaign,” which targets drug trafficking through Operation Dark Cloak.
