Guzmán López is the son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and one of the alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, while “El Mayo” is an alleged drug trafficker who allegedly led the organization and remained free for decades by evading authorities until July 25, when both were arrested in El Paso, Texas, where they arrived by plane.
The FGR points to the murder of Héctor Melesio de Cuén, former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) and elected federal deputy, as a fact related to the capture of both alleged drug traffickers in the United States and has requested information from the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya.
“The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Sinaloa is being urgently requested to accept the federal appeal of the case of the murder of Héctor ‘M’, due to its possible links to the main issue being analyzed.
“As for the governor of Sinaloa, the FGR’s representation in that state has already contacted him to obtain all the relevant information,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.
According to the FGR, the international affairs department plans to request international legal assistance for this case.
“Information that may be made public will be made public immediately; and if there is any obstacle or delaying tactic in the investigation, it will be further investigated; and if the case allows it, it will be communicated publicly, specifically and without any delay,” the institution added.
