Actor Alejandro Guerrero: “Lían is the driving force of my career”

Actor Alejandro Guerrero

AREQUIPA, Peru – For just over two months, Cubavisión has been broadcasting the soap opera Be rebornwhich Cubans on and off the island are also following on YouTube. The dramatization has been a success, with constant twists and extensive character development that is almost reminiscent of the much-loved Brazilian productions.

The soap opera also has a wide cast of characters who pull the threads of the plot, as well as actors, more or less established in the field, who give life to the main, antagonistic and secondary characters. Precisely among the group of newcomers stands out Alejandro Guerrero, a revelation actor who plays Lían.

About his time at Be rebornthe young artist spoke with the official newspaper Escambraysharing details of his life and behind the scenes of television production.

“When I was a child, my mother was the one who took me to the theatre group The little green man, and there I started with dance, I tried acting, music, but I was not good at singing, so it seemed like I had a future in dance and acting, so that’s where I started,” says Guerrero in relation to his origins in the art world.

During her adolescence, she was in the theater group from the age of 11 to 15. At that same stage, at 14, she began to prepare for the tests of the National School of Art (ENA) in the Olga Alonso group, with Humberto Rodríguez.

According to him, he was not accepted into the academy at that time due to nodules on his vocal cords, even though he managed to pass the first evaluation tests.

“I got very angry and didn’t want to know anything about acting, I even walked away from that world. I would have loved to go to school, but unfortunately, I couldn’t. Rather, the training I have had has been in practice, the things I have done, the directors I have worked with, who have corrected me along the way, given me techniques, explained things to me, all in practice, making mistakes, polishing them.”

So Alejandro Guerrero’s talent could be said to be almost empirical. However, the young man recognizes that his acting training It has been “great” and, in that sense, he is one of those who thinks that “everything that happens, happens for a reason.”

“I arrive at the soap opera Be reborn through Rey Castaneda, a professor at the ENA. When I took the tests, I didn’t show up anymore, I went to my pre-school and I passed my Military Service. He called me when I was in the Military Service for a project and I told him I couldn’t, but he called me again now for the novel, he asked me if I wanted to apply for the casting And so it was: I showed up and that same day, at five in the afternoon, I had the role.”

Lían, his character, is a local rascal, talkative and charismatic. He is also a character with many nuances, with antagonistic overtones, but who has managed to win over the audience in a good way.

“Lían is a genius. I think he is the character who has driven my career, my life, because the acceptance he has had from the public has been tremendous, people have connected very well with him and I am happy, of course.”

Like any good interpretation, Guerrero’s work has aroused passions among audiences, who sometimes tend to confuse fiction and reality.

“People on the street are very nice and some of them are too nice, they even say rude things to me, but everything is great, they ask me for photos. The other day a young man stopped me near the Maternity Hospital and told me that he was going to name his son after the character, which was a name he had already thought of, but, because of the soap opera, he decided on it; that is an anecdote that I will always remember.”

The soap opera Be rebornunder the general direction of Heiking Hernández, has transcended the regular audience of the soap opera (as this serial genre of melodrama is also often called), managing to glue the most casual groups of viewers to the screens.

“There has been an explosion on social media, I really don’t know how I’m going to manage all this shower of blessings that has fallen on me through the chat, the very nice comments, people from all over the country write to me, Cubans who see the soap opera in other countries: in Miami, Spain, Brazil, Mexico (…) I receive letters from both men and women of all ages.”

Regarding the commonalities between the human being and the character, Guerrero admits that he has a great resemblance to Lían. His girlfriend even dares to point out that they are almost identical.

“They really do look a lot alike and I took advantage of that. I think the points of contact are that we are both young, we have almost the same dynamics for relating to people, the same charisma; I think that’s what they have in common, the rest is acting, because of course, I added elements that I see on the street that I don’t have, but yes, we really do look alike.”

At the same time that Lían has taken root in popular taste, the recognition of Alejandro Guerrero has also increased, who has already recorded in another highly sought-after space: Following the trail.
