Santiago- The President of the Republic Luis Abinader He conducted the first trip with passengers on the Santiago Monorail, marking a milestone in the history of transportation in the Dominican Republic, Central America and the Caribbean, with the first of its kind in the region to carry out this test.
The president drove the train and four cars from Station 3 in Ensanche Espaillat to Station 2 in San Lorenzo, a journey of about 2 kilometers at a reduced speed of approximately 15 kilometers per hour.
This fact sets a precedent for the Dominican Republic, positioning the country at another level in the region in terms of transportation, mobility, innovation and sustainability.

This monorail is a promise kept by the ruler, a commitment he made in 2021 when the construction process of the Santiago Integrated Transportation System (SIT-Stgo) began with line 1 of that city’s cable car.
Then, on April 30, 2022, work began on the project, which has been under construction for two years and four months.
Dynamic testing of the system without passengers began in May of this year with the first trains that the country received.
The President was accompanied during the tour by the First Lady, Raquel Arbaje, the Vice President, Raquel Peña, the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos, and the Senator of Santiago, Eduardo Estrella.
The project is progressing according to the established schedule, with 2,845 piles of a total of 4,034 completed and built to date, as well as 449 piles of a total of 759.
