Barahona, DR.- Journalist Juan Francisco Matos Espinosa has 51 years of experience in journalism, and he says he is proud to have served Dominican society for so long, especially his hometown.Barahona.

Matos Espinosa, 77 years old, said that has selflessly served his people, commitment that he assumed from the first moment he started in the area of ​​communications.

The journalist, who has 49 years old as correspondent of the elCaribe newspaper in Barahona, He began his career in journalism on July 6, 1973, as a neighborhood correspondent for the news program “Suroeste Informativo,” on the former Radio Guarocuya.

He commented that since March of the year 1959 He lives in a house, located on Sánchez Street, number 264, in the Savica neighborhood, in front of the sports field, where he assured He is happy and will be as long as he is alive.

“I live in this house, which is a palace for me, with an income that does not allow me to fully cover my household needs, but I am happy,” he said.

Matos Espinosa recalled that “Informative Southwest”, where he started as a neighborhood correspondent in Savica, was directed by Alejandro Santana. Miguel Pineda López worked there as a journalist and Manuel Jiménez, alias “Pollito”, as a broadcaster, among others. Jiménez lived in the Savica neighborhood.

“In 1975 I began writing in the Caribbean, where I still work. I was also a correspondent for HIZ Informative, Radio Cristal, among other radio media in the capital, where I later entered the workforce in Radio Barahona News Daily, “The late Luis López Méndez and Genao Contreras were in charge of the press,” Matos Espinosa recalls.

For a long time he was the main staff writer for Diario Noticias, under the direction of César Ramírez, Genao Contreras, López Méndez, Don Pepe Cavallo Leo Corniel. He left Empresas Radiofónicas in August 2008.

In addition to elCaribe, he collaborated with the evening paper El Nacional, when Luis López Méndez, who was its correspondent in Barahona, stopped being so. He recalls that at that time the Barahona journalist Luis Eduardo Matos was the one who received their contributions, being the latter a staff writer for El Nacional.

Currently Matos Espinosa is the director of the portal «Noticiario Barahona.com, which came to light on June 5, 2010.

Matos Espinosa, an empirical journalist with vast experience in the area of ​​communication, says that what he knows about communication he learned from the newspaper elCaribe, a medium that, together with Listín Diario, were two schools for young people of that time, who for various reasons did not have the good fortune to study the career in the country’s universities.

“These two newspapers produced great empirical journalists who worked in other important media outlets, and some of them even became directors and editors in chief of important written media outlets in the capital,” Matos Espinosa said.
