Agents of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) arrested a former Colombian military officer allegedly involved in plans to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro, according to military sources.
The subject is identified as Juan Camilo Vargas Picón, a former Colombian military officer who was arrested at the Citizen Service Point, located in the Bolivarian Indigenous Municipality of Guajira, Zulia.
Vargas Picón was seized from a telephone, which was subjected to an examination that revealed text messages, voice messages and images of interest that reflected alleged plans to assassinate President Maduro, according to a report from Detachment 112 of the GNB.
The procedure was notified to the General Directorate of Western Military Counterintelligence.
In another incident, officers of the Bolivarian National Police, attached to the Strategic Intelligence Division of Lara state, arrested three men in Barquisimeto allegedly involved in the crime of inciting hatred and vandalism.
The subjects were seized two cell phones, two motorcycles, a riot shield with the initials of the GNB and a 37/38 rifle cartridge (tear gas) and ten Molotov cocktails.
The detainees were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
