Citizens gave a clear second term
Morena and it must take care of democracy, a legacy of the opposition group of 1988 and other movements that preceded it, said Felipe de la Mata Pizaña, magistrate of the superior chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF).
On the occasion of the release of his first novel The wounds (Planeta publishing house), a work that combines literature with contemporary history, in particular the turbulent years of the dirty warthe armed popular subversion in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the decisive election of 1988, the author commented on the impact of the past on the current situation.
In principle, he regrets that 88 has been disappearing from the collective imagination of citizens
which seems unfair to him because that phenomenon allows us to explain the present and understand how a democratic transition to the left was reached in 2018 and how it now seems that the citizens have given a second clear mandate also in favor of that left

De la Mata, with 27 years of experience in the TEPJF, highlighted the importance of knowing the genesis of the opposition movement of 1988, united with the candidacy of Cuauthémoc Cárdenas.
He considered that, as citizens, we must demand That those who have historically fought to achieve democracy do not kill democracy. That electoral institutions are respected, that they continue to maintain autonomy, that they continue to do their work, that they have the necessary budget and, at the same time, that the opposition also has the participation in the context that society itself gives them and, of course, respect for the rule of law and human rights. All that is what the word democracy means, not just elections.
