Spanish State observers endorse Venezuelan electoral process

A diverse, qualified and plural group, made up of fifty observers from the Spanish State, participated in the International Accompaniment Plan of the National Electoral Council, and provided their testimony on the legality, transparency and integrity of the elections of July 28, which resulted in the reelection of President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.

Among the signatories of the statement, there is the presence of national and regional deputies of the Communist Party of Spain; Izquierda Unida (in Sumar); of EH Bildu; of Podemos and of the Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG); leaders of political forces, academics and professors of constitutional law, intellectuals, journalists, leaders of social movements, youth, women and labor movements, who also denounced the violent acts, the expressions of hatred and the undue interventionist campaign that is being carried out against Venezuela, after the defeated far right refused to recognize the election results.

In the text, they call on the governments of the world to respect democratic institutions in Venezuela, sovereignty, stability and peace.

The full text of the statement is below:

SPANISH STATE OBSERVERS IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS OF VENEZUELA

To the national and international public opinion: We, who act as international observers from the Spanish State in the Venezuelan presidential elections of July 28, 2024, duly accredited by the National Electoral Council, the governing body of the Electoral Power, in the face of the campaign of interference and undue external pressure on the Venezuelan electoral process, the violent acts and the manifestations of hatred unleashed on social networks, believe it necessary to declare:

• We ratify the statement in support of the legitimacy, transparency and integrity of the Venezuelan electoral process organized by the National Electoral Council that resulted in the reelection of President Nicolás Maduro.

• We reject the acts of violence provoked after the election results were not recognized, including the attacks on supporters of the Bolivarian Government in Venezuela and abroad, as well as the assault and destruction of the headquarters and other facilities of Venezuelan public bodies, as well as those belonging to various popular organizations.

• We value President Nicolás Maduro’s initiative to file an electoral appeal before the Supreme Court of Justice to firmly determine the events that occurred and issue a final judgment on the result, thus appealing to the constitutional, democratic and sovereign way of resolving the controversy.

• We repudiate the statement calling for a military coup signed by the losing candidate and the self-proclamation as president-elect of the signatory of said statement, former candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.

• We value the call by the Supreme Court of Justice to the candidates and the National Electoral Council to present the evidence of the electoral contentious appeal.

• We call on the governments of the world to respect the democratic institutions of the State of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its sovereignty.
