Authorities say it is too early to talk about ending search efforts

Representatives of federal agencies and the state of São Paulo who are participating in the work of removing and identifying the bodies of the victims of the crash of the Voepass airline plane (formerly Passaredo) said it was still too early to talk about deadlines for the completion of the work.Authorities say it is too early to talk about ending search efforts

“There is still no forecast for the end of the work”, said today (10), the head of the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa), Brigadier Marcelo Moreno, during a quick speech to journalists gathered at the entrance to the residential condominium where the aircraft, an ATR-72 turboprop, crashed around 1:20 pm yesterday (9), in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo.

“Given the importance of this information, we are prioritizing quality over speed,” added Moreno, explaining that the “black boxes,” that is, the voice recorders and technical data such as the speed at which the aircraft was flying at the time the pilots lost control, are already being analyzed by technicians in Brasília.

“We first started trying to decode the voice recordings and then the data recordings,” commented the brigadier who, yesterday, had already explained that recovering records of conversations between the pilot and co-pilot and technical data from the flight are essential for investigators to understand the occurrence and, thus, try to avoid similar accidents.

Rescued

By 1:30 p.m., at least 31 of the 62 victims of the crash of flight 2283 from Cascavel (PR) to Guarulhos (SP) had been located. Although federal and São Paulo security and rescue workers are working around the clock, concentrated in a small residential area, the general commander of the Military Police, Colonel Cássio Araújo de Freitas, highlighted the difficulty of the search.

“We are about to complete 24 hours of this incident. The first vehicle arrived here five minutes after we were called. The Fire Department vehicles arrived shortly after. And we have experienced men and women here, but what they are doing is not easy,” said the commander, reporting problems with the presence of unauthorized drones in the area of the accident. “We had problems with this and we will use the equipment we have to, if necessary, take out of action the drones that do not belong to any agency involved in the operation.”

The superintendent of the Federal Police (PF) in São Paulo, Rodrigo Luis Sanfurgo, stressed that it is difficult to say when the work will be completed. “We cannot say in advance when it will be completed. What we can say from the PF is that we are working tirelessly to complete this work, identifying all the victims, and that we have carried out all the procedures to preserve the site and collect the elements necessary to conduct our investigation,” commented the superintendent.
