Together with a group of eighty young people from the Colonia Miguelete and Ombúes de Lavalle areas, councillor Héctor Rodríguez presented to the Colonia Departmental Council for study the proposal to install several “picometers”. These are places where young people can participate in motorcycle races in various cities of the department.
This is what the councillor told EL ECO: “This arose before the internal elections, with a group of young people from Ombúes de Lavalle, neighbours of Miguelete, with whom we have a lot of ties due to the issue of proximity and also kinship, friendship, work. The young people gathered there through social networks for a weekend and approximately 80 boys, kids with motorbikes got together and they started to develop these races and stunts in the streets of the town.”
During the meeting, “the police intervened, there was a complaint from the residents of Ombúes de Lavalle, totally founded, of course, and there was persecution. They left the urban area to do it in another place and the police also intervened there to maintain order. We found out about all this and the young people asked to hold a meeting with the speaker and with other actors at the local level there in Ombúes de Lavalle, to find a solution.”
“We proposed, precisely on their initiative, to look for a space outside of populated centers, fundamentally, where the racetracks could be built.”
These sites would become reality, paved race tracks, about 200-250 and even 300 meters long, about 4 meters wide, with a start line and a finish line. “What we are suggesting to them is that it has to be done safely. Safe for them, who are the protagonists.”
Asked whether they have any plans for places for the “picódromos”, Councillor Rodríguez reveals: “There are already some in Ombúes de Lavalle, the young people found a place there, which is a municipal property, but this too, if it is regulated, I would put it as something similar to what motocross races are.”
“We have thought about all of that, security for all the actors and to keep the public good intact, meaning that public order is not violated, nor are neighbors disturbed, nor anything like that. “So we proposed to the Departmental Board the creation of racetracks in some localities of the department and also with these security measures, of course, no question. We raised it to the National Secretariat of Sports, which is dependent on the Presidency of the Republic and headed by Mr. Sebastián Bauzá,” he emphasized.
