Five soft skills needed to boost entrepreneurship, according to experts

Entrepreneurs must develop different skills that cover technical, financial, planning, and organizational issues, as well as various soft skills that are important for the growth of their project.

Hugo Zavala Chávez, coordinator of the Faculty of Administration and Business of the Technological University of Peru (UTP)), explains that these skills can be one’s own or acquired, but it is necessary to work on them to achieve better results.

“From my point of view, these are necessary for every entrepreneur. If they are neglected, the growth of the business can be limited and, therefore, the fulfillment of your dreams.”, he adds Roberto Guevara Zavaleta, professor of Administration and Business at UTP.

What are the five soft skills needed to boost entrepreneurship?

According to experts, they are as follows:

Effective communication. The ability to communicate persuasively and transparently is essential for every entrepreneur.

Leadership. This does not only refer to leading a team, but also involves inspiring, delegating, supporting, training and motivating people to reach their full potential, UTP teachers explain.

Emotional intelligence. It involves the ability to recognize, understand and manage one’s own emotions and those of others.

Adaptability. The business environment is highly dynamic and constantly changing. In that sense, adaptability is the ability to quickly adjust to new situations, learn from mistakes and change when necessary.

Problem solving. The ability to solve problems creatively is key for all entrepreneurs. This means identifying problems quickly, analyzing possible solutions, and generating value propositions that ensure customer satisfaction.

However, soft skills alone do not guarantee success. There may be negative results, and if so, it is necessary to take it as a learning experience,” advises Hugo Zavala. “Emotional resilience must be cultivated and strengthened to overcome obstacles with determination. Life is 10% situations and 90% attitudes.”adds Roberto Guevara.
