Huancayo: Integrated patrol on board 30 motorcycles in high crime rate areas

Integrated patrols will finally begin. A security guard and a police officer will be on board each of the 30 motorcycles purchased by the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo and will be in the areas with the highest crime rate according to the crime map.

“We are already patrolling with 30 motorcycles that will line up at the Huancayo police station and then go out to patrol in the afternoon shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., which is the period with the highest crime rate in Huancayo. Each motorcycle was assigned a quadrant to cover a shift,” said Huancayo police chief, Commander Frank Muñoz.

The officer met yesterday with the manager of Citizen Security of the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo, Luis Melgar, to define the points to patrol according to the crime map.

deterrent. “The Corcel Squadron is exclusively assigned to carry out preventive and deterrent patrols. The police and security guard have the responsibility of a quadrant for each motorized unit and will have greater presence on the streets and the response will be much faster in the event of an emergency for the neighbors,” said manager Luis Melgar Contreras.

He pointed out that the motorized units of the Corcel Squadron already have license plates and SOAT after completing the entire process that this procedure required (for several months) in which the Yamaha company, the supplier of the units, also had a hand in. “It has been a cumbersome process on the part of the Yamaha company, which, in a certain way, has not shown the necessary predisposition to provide them with license plates and SOAT, which are essential requirements for them to be able to circulate,” he said.

The official said that the Huanca municipality also acquired two more Toyota Hilux trucks for patrolling, which will be delivered, but they also have to comply with the regulations and procedures to have SOAT and license plate. With this, they will join the 10 vehicles that the serenazgo has and thus further intensify the patrolling that the residents of Huancayo need so much.

The regional coordinator of the Neighborhood Councils for Citizen Security, Rocío Samaniego, called for the start of patrols in places where there is a higher crime rate, such as on Huancavelica Avenue, around markets such as Ferrocarril Avenue, in the chinganas that swarm near the universities in San Carlos and San Antonio, the Yanama and Cerrito La Libertad sector, and Giráldez Avenue near immigration.

However, he called for awareness-raising efforts to reduce crime, now that many university students will return to classes and will once again go to clubs, where they are assaulted and attacked when they are drunk.

The councilor of the Huanca commune, Sabino Blancas, said that after three months of waiting, it is now urgent that the integrated patrol of the areas with the highest crime rate be carried out immediately in order to strengthen the fight against crime, since the motorcycles remained stored due to pending procedures. Regarding the security guards hired for the Corcel squad, he warned that the contract has already ended and they hope that they have renewed it so that they have permanent personnel for the Yamaha motorcycles, which were manufactured in Indonesia. They expect a minimum of 5 years of warranty.
