MIAMI, United States. – Sources from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of the United States clarified to Marti News this Friday that the recent temporary pause in the issuance of travel permits from the program of words humanitarian does not affect the Program Words for Cuban Family Reunification (CFRP).
Although both programs use Form I-134A, they are different and operate independently.
DHS emphasized that “beneficiaries who have already received Advance Travel Authorizations (ATA) should verify their account [en la aplicación telefónica o la web de] myUSCIS for updates before making travel arrangements and before traveling. All individuals with a valid ATA may travel.”

In recent weeks, several CFRP beneficiaries have reported difficulties completing the process from Cuba. Yessenia Benitez, one of the beneficiaries, told Marti News: “I have been trying for weeks and I get an error message. When requesting the travel permit, we get an automatic message saying that the record cannot be found.”
Benitez added: “There are many of us who are in the same situation. We wrote to the CBP [Oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza de Estados Unidos]and we have called but we have not received an answer.”
The Program of Words The Family Reunification Act for Cubans was established in 2007 and updated in 2023. It currently allows certain U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents to apply for an entry permit for their family members in Cuba.
