Almeida is not resigned to leaving the presidency of the Participation Council

The dismissed incumbent criticized the changes made by the new majority to the regulations to appoint Comptroller. And she said that anything they approve is illegal.

This Friday, February 18, 2022, Sofia Almeida assured at a press conference from the delegation of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS) in Guayaquil, which continues to be the Chairwoman of the agency and that he left the main building in Quito because he felt “unprotected” after requesting police presence three times without receiving a response.

Almeida pointed out that the modifications to the Regulation for the election of Comptroller, approved by the majority of the Council on the night of Thursday, February 18, are illegal. He referred, in particular, to the increase in an oral test evaluated with 20 points; he believes it “takes the objectivity out of the contest.” He repeated several more times during his intervention that the previous regulation was technical and that has been replaced by a more subjective one that he will not accept because -he said- «I am not part of the gang».

He added that any appointment made by the 4 majority councilors will be called into question, which “would detract from the legitimacy of the position” of the authorities they appoint.

When asked about the testimony of one of her advisers who stated that he spoke with people in the Assembly and that he had negotiations with Carondelet, Almeida replied that “he did not know what his adviser was doing.” (GVL)
