AREQUIPA, Peru – The First Criminal Chamber of the Cienfuegos Provincial People’s Court imposed severe sentences against Alnier Chao Navarro and Yarelquis Aguilar Duarte for the murder of 18-year-old Yoilén de la Caridad Acosta Torriente, from the municipality of Cruces, who was killed on January 29, 2023.

Likewise, Yarelquis Aguilar Duarte was sentenced to 23 years of imprisonment for her co-authorship and participation in the events. In this case, the Court decided to adjust the sentence, since the woman was sick and involved for the first time. in the commission of a crime.
During the oral and public trial session, the charges against Chao Navarro were confirmed. After meeting the young woman by chance and exchanging telephone numbers, he hatched the idea of murder, in order to rob her of several pieces of gold and make money from them.
In agreement with his wife, the accused Aguilar Duarte, the convicted man invited the victim to a meeting that took place where he lived, and there “unexpectedly and suddenly he hit her on the back of the neck” and then ended up suffocating her. When he informed his partner that the agreement had been fulfilled, they took away all the belongings that the deceased was carrying with her.
Together they transported the murdered young woman in a sack, hidden in a briefcase, to the area of a sugarcane field located on the Cruces-Marta Abreu highway, where they set fire to it in order to eliminate any trace that might link them to that act.
However, verified phone call traces put the the focus on the two murderersand on January 31, 2023, Chao Navarro admitted the commission of the crime to the police authorities. Yoilén’s body was found completely charred between two furrows in a sugarcane field.
