The internal arena of the National Party has just been shaken by the emergence of a new group called Alianza País. This sector, claiming to represent the 28% of “white” voters, is positioning itself with the ambition of becoming the majority of the party.

During a recent presentation in Montevideo, key figures such as Javier García and Sebastián Da Silva have argued their intention to consolidate a significant force within the party.

“We unite to win,” Javier García, the leading voice of this new coalition, emphatically declared at the launch ceremony.

For his part, Sebastián Da Silva claimed the group as “the best legacy” of historical figures such as Luis Lacalle Pou and Jorge Larrañaga.

This sector, its leaders believe, seeks to amalgamate different currents within the National Party by integrating the National Alliance with already established spaces such as the Group of Mayors and Plan País, all under the common alliance: Espacio País.

Alianza País’s political projections are based on an internal electoral analysis. In the last internal election on June 30, Espacio País and Alianza Nacional together obtained around 105,000 votes.

The new sector of the PN wants to obtain 4 seats in the Senate

This figure represents, according to their calculations, 28% of the total electorate of the National Party, a significant force in the current political scene. With these figures, they have set themselves the goal of obtaining at least four senatorial seats in the general elections in October.

This new movement has managed to bring together several party leaders, such as Senator Daniel Camy, Jorge Larrañaga Vidal, and Mayor Guillermo Besozzi.

The context of this alliance was revealed during an event at the headquarters of presidential candidate Álvaro Delgado, where the electoral camaraderie was palpable.

According to Da Silva, this coalition represents a conscious effort to “unite the legacy” of both Lacalle Pou and Larrañaga, trying to unite their fragmented results in the past elections.

“Today we are united to win,” Javier García stressed, closing his speech with unity as the axis of his speech. He stressed that this formation is the “synthesis and union” of multiple groups that have been converging over the course of the last year.

García, a former defense minister, stressed that this alliance is not only a strategic restructuring, but also a step towards greater commitment to the National Party’s bases.

Senator Daniel Camy added that Alianza País is “new and open,” acknowledging the roots and shared history within the party, but also highlighting its inclusive nature for all stakeholders.

At the same time, Senator Sergio Botana stressed the importance of the Wilsonian sector and the need to strengthen the party’s impact in the interior of the country.

In his words, “there is no National Party without a Wilsonian sector as it should be and there is no National Party that does well if the interior does not have the strength that it should have, and that is why we formed this group.”
