During the hearing, the lawyer, Jorge Jerí Jong, presented the request for the statute of limitations for his client’s crimes, arguing that, “Several higher courts have been applying Law 31751. Moreover, the Supreme Court itself has been applying it”.

The Judiciary issued a statement on the matter and opposed the request of Silva Checa’s lawyer. “In addition, the court declares unfounded the request of the defense of the accused Vicente Silva Checa for the prescription of the crimes of false declaration in administrative proceedings with generic falsehood and obstruction of justice,” reads a publication on the official X account of the Judiciary.
It is worth noting that the ‘Soto Law’ has been used by Alejandro Soto himself, Martín Vizcarra and Vladimir Cerrón, creating a precedent for archiving judicial proceedings.
