Bones found in Río San Juan belong to individuals from Senegal and Mauritania

The 14 skeletons found this Tuesday aboard a boat on the coast of Río San Juan, María Trinidad Sánchez province, belong to individuals from Senegal and Mauritaniacountries located in the west and northwest of Africa.

This was announced by the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD), which indicated that a backpack was also found containing 12 packages of a substance presumably cocaine or heroinin the presence of the competent authorities.

“The seized substance was handed over to members of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) for the corresponding procedures,” the agency added. ARD through a press release.

In addition, several belongings of the occupants were found on the boat, such as cell phones, their identification documents, clothing, bundles of clothes, among others.

The institution added that it will continue with the investigation of this discovery in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, to determine the causes and origin of this tragedy.

According to the authorities, the boat was located on the high seas after receiving an alert from a local fisherman. It was then towed to Adames beach, the Navy reported.
