Olympic champion at the Tokyo Games in 2021, Bahian Isaquias Queiroz began defending his title in the C1 1000-meter (single canoe) sprint canoeing event this Wednesday (7). He participated in the second heat of the qualifiers, which qualified the first two boats directly for the semi-finals.
Isaquias had a smooth race and led the way alongside Czech Martin Fuksa. The Brazilian slowed down halfway through the competition and only managed to hold on to his advantage until he crossed the finish line in 2nd place, with a time of 3min53sec94. He is now resting and will only compete in the semi-final on Friday (9), starting at 6:30 am, Brasília time. The race that will decide the medalists will also take place on Friday, starting at 8:40 am.
Before that, tomorrow (8), Isaquias Queiroz returns to the water, this time alongside Jacky Godmann, in the fight for a place in the C2 500 meter final. The start is scheduled for 6:20 am.
Still in the C1 1000 meters, Mateus Nunes participated in the fourth heat of the qualifiers and finished in 3rd place, with a time of 3min52sec60. With that, he will compete in the quarterfinals of the canoe sprint today, to try to get a place in the semifinals of the event.
Other results
In the qualifying rounds of the K1 500 meters (single kayak) for women, Ana Paula Vergutz finished the heat in 5th place, with a time of 1min54sec98, and will go to the quarterfinals. And in the K1 1000 meters for men, quarterfinals also for Vagner Souta. The Brazilian crossed the finish line of the heat in 4th place, with a time of 3min46sec17.
