AND
The United States, supported by the European Union (EU), is leading a coup d’état in Venezuela against Nicolás Maduro. The right and the extreme right of the countries of the West, the centre and the periphery, united perhaps forever – including the Mexican right – dance in unison a distorted American joropo that Washington plays for them. No one ignores the motive of the coup: to appropriate the largest oil reserves in the world. Vente Venezuela (VV), the party of the coup leader María Corina Machado, shows its true face: for the umpteenth time it has demonstrated its absolute divorce from democracy. It mounted a massive attack on the electoral cybernetic system, which has delayed the work of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela, while demanding the delivery of all the electoral records. The US and the EU are also doing this with total shamelessness. VV has also organized a week of brutal acts of violence against educational centres and hospitals, and has destroyed hundreds of police units.
The joropo, written by Antony Blinken, goes like this: In light of the overwhelming evidence, it is clear to the United States, and especially to the Venezuelan people, that Edmundo Gonzalez received the largest number of votes in the July 28 presidential election.
. Typical cynicism of the right. The threats of American imperialism are overwhelming. Blinken lacks any proof. If he had it, he would have already shown it. But Blinken thus gave the order to the right-wing of the world and they obeyed diligently to support the imperialist narrative: the dictator
Maduro wants to steal the election from Edmundo González (the puppet).
Blinken’s joropo continues like this: We have consulted with partners and allies around the world, and although countries are reacting differently, none have concluded that Maduro received the majority of the votes.
Of course neither the US nor any other country can conclude
nothing about the Venezuelan election: it is the legal responsibility of the CNE, and of no one else. The American order was, however, to be obeyed without reservation. The right-wing parties of the Western world, therefore, unleashed the television channels, the press, the undersigned’s advertisements, the mercenary pens. All against Maduro, a president of the Venezuelan people, hated and repudiated by the right-wing parties of the Western world.
The problem with Blinken’s joropo is that the CNE’s electoral system has been recognized as one of the safest in the world. Following its regulatory schedule, last Friday it confirmed and specified the electoral result: with 96.87 percent of the ballots counted, Nicolás Maduro won with 51.95 percent of the votes. This result will undoubtedly be confirmed once the CNE publishes the total number of votes. The regulations provide up to 30 days for the CNE to finish its work, but due to the circumstances, it is rushing its task. It is worth noting that in Mexico, the INE, two months after the election, has not yet finished its work, has not declared its final result, and we still do not have an elected president; and nothing is outside its regulatory timeframes. But in Venezuela it should have happened ipso facto.
The Venezuelan right, and Blinken, the current voice of the right wing of the Western world, are obviously not in a position to listen to reason. It is simply a matter of overthrowing Maduro, a dictator
which has won all the elections to which it has been subject, in terms of the law.
We congratulate Edmundo González Urrutia for his successful campaign
Blinken said. Now is the time for Venezuelan parties to begin discussions on a respectful and peaceful transition in accordance with Venezuelan electoral law and the wishes of the Venezuelan people.
Cynical words that require translation: Maduro, go now, we urgently need Venezuelan oil, it is ours because whatever we want is ours; we have the brute force to steal oil, as we did with the gold reserves that Venezuela had deposited in the Bank of England. The conspiracy of the right is in plain sight, but they will not pass.
As always, the right wing of the world has assumed, naturalizing it, the economic siege that the US and its partners imposed on Venezuela. In March 2015, Barack Obama signed Executive Order number 13692, which declared before him: Venezuela is an unusual and extraordinary threat to the US
after which it imposed sanctions. In an immediate act of obedience, Canada, the European Union, Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom, among other countries, also followed suit, accumulating 929 coercive measures, plus the confiscation of assets abroad for more than 24 billion dollars. Imperialist brutality has driven emigration and, as always, the poorest population has been the most affected.
The right, on the other hand, achieved a high vote. Venezuela is divided: there are two large irreconcilable factions. The people have the power of the State, and the right does not accept it. Two projects in inevitable discord. A difficult future.
