Some travel permits to the US are being cancelled, despite official wishes

AREQUIPA, Peru – Despite the willingness of the U.S. State Department to respect travel permits already granted to beneficiaries of humanitarian parole, in practice, testimonies from several Cubans indicate that authorizations issued months ago have been cancelled.

Last week, following the circulation of an internal report exposing significant levels of fraud in the humanitarian parole program, the U.S. government temporarily suspended travel permits for beneficiaries of the process.

Shortly after, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of that country Clarified that Beneficiaries who already had an approved travel permit could enter the United States.

In this regard, this Monday the arrival of several Cubans to the US who already had authorization was reported. Given this situation, Benítez recommended that anyone with a valid permit use it as soon as possible to avoid staying on the island until the parole program resumes, the date of which is still unknown.

Journalist Mario J. Pentón also recommended confirming that the travel permit has not been revoked before going to the airport.

“If 647,000 applications were reviewed and there were about 100,000 that the U.S. government understood to be fraudulent, then one in six applications that were submitted were false,” explains Benítez, analyzing official data from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

As confirmed by the DHS on Friday, Fox News DigitalWashington suspended the permits “out of an abundance of caution.”

This temporarily halts the issuance of advance travel authorizations for the parole program, which allows up to 30,000 nationals of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela (CHNV) travel to the USA each month and legally enter into the administration’s parole if they meet certain conditions.
