The Judiciary will inaugurate and put into operation this August a Hearing Room of the Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, next to the Barbadillo prison in the district of Atefor the trial of former presidents and senior public officials, announced the head of this branch of the State, Javier Arevalo Vela.
The country’s highest judicial authority thanked the Ministry of the Interior and the Municipality of Ate for providing a 760 square meter plot of land at the headquarters of the Police Special Operations Directorate (Diroes) where the aforementioned Courtroom was built.

The courthouse will have rooms for judges, prosecutors, defendants and waiting areas for defense attorneys, witnesses, experts and the attorney general’s office. There will also be a space for the public and for the press to observe the development of the hearings.
The Hearing Room of the Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court will allow for in-person and virtual trial hearings of former presidents and senior public officials, as provided for in Article 99 of the Constitution: ministers, congressmen, judges and supreme prosecutors, among others.
The former presidents Alejandro Toledoimprisoned for receiving alleged bribes from Odebrecht, and Peter Castillowho were convicted of a failed coup attempt and a corruption investigation, could be the first former presidents to be tried in the new courthouse.

Javier Arévalo Vela also announced that the headquarters of the conference will be ready next December. National Superior Court of Specialized Criminal Justiceon the first block of Uruguay Avenue, Cercado de Lima, which deals with complex cases of organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking and major state corruption.
The courts and chambers specializing in corruption crimes involving officials of the Superior Court of Justice of Lima will also operate at the same location.
In addition, in November we will hand over the new headquarters for the jurisdictional bodies of El Dorado (San Martín Court), in October the Courtrooms of the Penitentiary Establishment of Iquitos, Maynas, of the Superior Court of Loreto will be put into operation, and in September, the headquarters for courts and chambers of Abancay (Apurímac Court), specified Arévalo Vela.
